Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp (2,900m)
Your journey begins at the Umbwe Gate, surrounded by lush rainforest. The hike on the first day is moderately steep, taking you through the dense vegetation of the forest. You’ll reach Umbwe Cave Camp, where you’ll spend the night. This camp is nestled in the forest and provides a serene atmosphere to rest after your initial climb.
Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco Camp (3,960m)
As you continue your ascent, you’ll experience a significant gain in altitude. The trail leads you through moorland, offering magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. The path can be steep in parts, so it’s important to take your time and acclimatize properly. Your second night will be spent at Barranco Camp, known for its stunning vistas and a great opportunity for altitude adaptation.
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,035m)
On this day, you’ll tackle the Barranco Wall, a thrilling and slightly challenging scramble that rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views. After reaching the top of the wall, the terrain becomes gentler as you make your way to Karanga Camp, located in a scenic valley. This is another opportunity to acclimatize as you prepare for the higher altitudes.
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,640m)
Your journey continues with a relatively short trek to Barafu Camp, situated on a barren plateau. The route is mostly uphill, and you’ll notice the landscape becoming more arid and rocky. At Barafu Camp, you’ll rest and prepare for your summit attempt.
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and Mweka Camp (3,100m)
The most challenging day of your climb begins in the early hours of the morning. Your goal is the summit, Uhuru Peak. As you ascend through the darkness, you’ll witness the sunrise at Stella Point, a remarkable experience. The final push to Uhuru Peak is demanding but incredibly rewarding as you stand on the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m) and Moshi
The last day of your adventure takes you down through the lush rainforest, where you’ll encounter the vibrant flora and fauna of Kilimanjaro. Your descent ends at Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. A transfer will take you back to Moshi, marking the end of your memorable journey.
