Arrival in Moshi
Upon your arrival in Moshi, you’ll have a chance to rest and get prepared for the exciting climb ahead. Your climbing company will provide a pre-trek briefing, ensuring you have all the necessary gear and understand the journey that awaits you.
Machame Gate to Shira Camp
The trek kicks off at the Machame Gate, where you’ll register and start your hike. The first day introduces you to the unique flora and fauna of Kilimanjaro as you make your way to Shira Camp. This day is a moderate ascent, and you’ll spend the night at an altitude of about 3,845 meters. The scenery is already captivating, with breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau.
Shira Camp to Lava Tower and Barranco Camp
This day takes you from Shira Camp to Lava Tower, an exciting part of the journey that introduces you to higher elevations. Afterward, you’ll descend to Barranco Camp, situated at approximately 3,950 meters. The descent helps with acclimatization, and the Barranco Valley boasts a unique landscape that’s truly remarkable.
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
As you leave Barranco Camp, you’ll encounter the famous Barranco Wall, an exhilarating climb. The trail then takes you to Karanga Camp, situated at about 4,035 meters. Here, you’re closer to the summit and will enjoy awe-inspiring views of the glaciers and the southern ice fields.
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
The journey continues as you progress to Barafu Camp, perched at an elevation of around 4,640 meters. This is the base camp for your final summit push. The landscapes become more austere, and the air grows thinner, but your spirit and determination are strong as you prepare for the summit attempt.
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak
The most challenging day has arrived. You’ll start your ascent in the early hours of the morning, guided by headlamps, to reach the summit of Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. The views from the Roof of Africa are simply stunning. Afterward, the descent begins, and you’ll return to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing your descent to Mweka Camp.
